My 5 must-have food apps

During my stay in Milan I’ve been part of the Girl Geek Team, a group of volunteers who organize events for women in technology. It’s been an interesting and unforgettable experience that let me meet a lot of smart girls, with whom I could share ideas and talk about new products, gadgets and applications.

That’s just one of the ways in which I’ve been nurturing my passion for  technology. Make IT Italian is of course the latest! So, here we go with my personal 5 must-have food apps…

1. Keeprecipes: this app allows you to create a personal digital cookbook. You can add your own recipes and photos or save recipes from any websites using the ‘Keep Recipe bookmarklet’. All your recipes are instantly synchronized between your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and computer so you can access them on any digital device using your personal login. Furthermore, Keeprecipes is a social network where you can follow people, invite friends and share your recipes via Facebook and Twitter. And it’s completely free.
2. Foodspotting: Are you wondering what to eat for dinner and where? Foodspotting can help you. It’s a visual local guide where you can find user-generated recommendations of dishes available at nearby restaurants. Right, it’s based on the rating of single dishes rather than restaurants: you can share photos of the food you like and tell others where they can find it.
3. Love Food hate waste: this free app is a useful source of tips and tricks  on reducing food waste. It gives you a Portion Size Planner to help you prepare the right amount of ingredients and avoid cooking too much. The Meal Planner is useful  too. It helps you to plan your meals for the week and to build your shopping list, reducing your food waste.
4. Egg Timer: cooking a perfect boiled egg is different than cooking scrambled eggs. If you are an egg lover, this is the right app for you. Egg Timer is a free app which transforms your iPhone into a timer to help you cook perfect eggs. It allows you to choose between instructions for boiled, poached, scrambled and fried eggs, to customize your cooking time based on egg size and hardness and to get advice until you master the art of perfect eggs.
5. Meal Snap: are you interested in knowing how many calories you eat daily? Meal Snap is going to help you for just 0,69£. You take a picture of your meal with the iPhone and, almost instantly, the app gives you an alert with a range of calories for the food you’re eating. I don’t think it could ever recognize what’s the stuffing of my lasagna… but the idea is great!
